How to store cashmere garments in summer

When summer arrives, you have to put your winter clothes away in the wardrobe to make room for blouses, vest tops and dresses. So what should you do to keep your cashmere garments in the best possible shape until next winter?

Wash and dry with care

First of all, you need to wash and dry your garments following the cashmere care instructions. Whether you decide to use the washing machine or wash by hand, remember to wash your sweater or cardigan inside out. In the machine, use the wool or delicate cycle at 30°C; by hand, cool water. Add a small amount of mild detergent, don't rub and don't use the spin cycle. You can get rid of the excess water by rolling the garment up or blotting it with a towel.

After that, iron it on a low setting and, if you can, with a cloth over it so you don't damage the fibres, always keeping the garment inside out. Once it's washed and thoroughly dry, you can put your cashmere garment away in the wardrobe.

Tips for storing cashmere garments

At this point your cashmere garment is washed and ironed, but that isn't enough. It also needs to be folded properly if you want it to last over time.

Fold your garment in half lengthways, with the sleeves stretched out flat so they don't crease. You can slip some tissue paper inside it to help it keep its shape and avoid sharp creases.

Once you've done that, put it in a cotton or canvas garment bag to protect it. Inside, add a moth repellent: cedar balls, sachets of cinnamon and cloves, or cotton pads soaked in basil and mint essence.

Put the garments away in the drawer, remember to refresh the moth repellent sachets every 2 or 3 months, and next winter your cashmere pieces will be ready to wear again.
