The region
Eight hundred years of textiles
Prato has worked wool since the 1200s, and even then it shipped finished garments across Europe. That is the town our knitwear still comes from.
Our story
The fibre
Combed by hand, once a year
Cashmere is the fine undercoat of a goat that lives on the high plateaus of Asia. It is combed out during the spring moult, and one sweater takes the yield of three or four goats.
About cashmere
The family
Three generations, one trade
Dalle Piane Cashmere is run by the Dondini family, who have worked cashmere in Prato for three generations, father to son.
Meet the familyHow we make it
Making it last
It is not a product line; it is how we work. Pieces made within a few miles of each other, and washed the way that keeps them going instead of being thrown out.

Small batches, reordered often
We make small runs and reorder often: no warehouse, no unsold stock to clear, no discounts beyond 20%.

Recycled cashmere
Fibre recovered from cashmere garments and offcuts that already existed, which would otherwise have been waste. The yarn comes from a spinning mill in Prato: 100% cashmere, at least half of it recycled. We knit it into sweaters in our family's factory.

Washing is what makes it last
Hand wash cool, or use the wool or delicate cycle at 30°C, then dry flat. Cared for this way, a cashmere sweater will last years — and a piece you keep wearing is worth more than any material we could choose.
